The Twin Sahara Weddings

Subroto Roy’s elder son Sushanto married Richa and younger son Seemanto married Chandini in February 2004. The venue was the Sahara auditorium. The estimated expense in the marriage is 552 crore. 11000 guests graced the occasion including Amitabh Bachchan, the late leader of Shiv Sena Bal Thackeray, Aishwarya Rai, Anil Ambani, and Mulayam Singh Yadav. Chef Hemant Oberoi of Taj Hotels was in charge of the 1100 cuisines spread out for the guests. There was a musical performance by British symphony band, dance performance by Shiamak Davar and acrobatics performances. The outfits were designed by Rohit Bal and Sabyasachi. On the occasion Sahara parivar organized marriages of 101 underprivileged girls. 14000 beggars from across the country were fed by the family.

The Tanwar Wedding

Congress leader Kanwar Singh Tanwar’s son Lalit got married to Yogita in February 2011. The total expenditure is said to be 250 crore. The groom was gifted a Bell 429 chopper by the bride’s family as a wedding gift. The total number of guests was 15000 and 2000 guests who attended the lagan ceremony were each presented a 30gm silver biscuit, a safari suit and 2100.
