Tata Group To Launch Online Marketplace Cliq By Month End


BANGALORE: Tata Group is all set to enter ecommerce space through the launch of online marketplace CLiQ. The marketplace will be launched by the end of this month and will be integrating the online experience with omnichannel support at brick-and-mortar stores. Tata Unistore, the new arm of Tata Group will be launching CLiQ with initial focus on apparel as reported by The Economics Times. Tata has plans to turn their focus later on the electronics and footwear segment later through CLiQ.

Through its arms Trent and Croma, the salt-to-steel conglomerate already has a big presence in the retail segment with combined sales of $108.78 bn. While Croma form the chain of multi-brand electronics stores, Trent operates the Westside and Landmark chain of lifestyle stores, and Infiniti Retail. In addition, Titan watch brand and jewellery company Tanishq is also owned by the group.

Recently, several established corporations have launched their online forays recent being Arvind Ltd launching its omni-channel platform NNNow.com. With CLiQ, Tata Group will also be following these conglomerates into this sector. "The 'Q' in the logo represents a magnifying glass - a visual representation of the brand's focus on curating only the best brands and products," said Ashutosh Pandey, CEO, Tata CLiQ.

Other multinationals which have launched their online platforms include Reliance Industries, and Aditya Birla Group. While the former launched an online fashion retail platform called Ajio, the later has launched abof.com about six months ago. With Tata Group launching its platform as well we hope to see a healthy and good competition between all these behemoths which ultimately will benefit the end customers.
