Tata Group Partners Uber in Driving Micro-Entrepreneurship in India


BENGALURU:  In today’s world, we constantly find cars of car aggregators such as Ola, Uber, MeruCabs and many more plying on Indian roads round the clock. They enable commuters to book a ride at the push of a button and help them in reaching their destination on time. In that regard, to take micro-entrepreneurship to the next level in India, Tata Group and Uber Technologies have entered in a new partnership recently. As per the new partnership, owners and drivers on the Uber platform will be able to buy Tata cars like Indica and Indigo. They will also be eligible for flexible and customized financing solutions offered by Tata Capital Financial Services and Tata Motors Finance besides affordable insurance from Tata AIG. The association will ensure in providing operational support to drivers, who want to use this new vehicle solutions programme.

Eric Alexander, Head of Business, Uber Asia stated, "It's clear from talking to drivers how much they value their flexibility and independence. It's why we are excited to work with the Tatas to help make it easier and more affordable for drivers to get on the road, thereby promoting micro entrepreneurship in India."

The Pan-India initiative which has been started in Hyderabad targets to enable over 20,000 drivers in starting their own business on the platform offered by Uber over the next year.  It is worth mentioning that Tata Oppurtunity fund had invested in Uber last year. Madhu Kannan, member-group executive council and Group Head for Business Development and Public Affairs at Tata Sons said that the partnership with Uber Technologies allows the Tata Group to test its capabilities and reach.
