Six Cars in 5 months: The Aggressive Maruti

BANGALORE: Maruti is poised for a comeback, looking to kick-start in the market for the coming year. It has now lined up major new models, the Ciaz mid size sedan,

the Suzuki cross compact SUV which are likely to hit the market this year, Reports Et.

Maruti Suzuki India is one of the biggest market shareholders in the auto sector. Though the current market share has fallen over the years owing to stiff competition, now its share is returning to 50 percent in FY14 and mature purchasing decisions of the consumers.

The company had launched India's small car revolution in 1983 with the 800 is getting bigger and better with the success of the Ertiga, the second best selling model with 4,857 units. This brought annual incremental volumes of 60,000 to the company, and now Swift, Dzire, Alto K10 and Ertiga models are expected to get refreshed with a facelift. Even though, it’s record on selling larger cars, the SX4 sedan, the Kizashi premium saloon and the Grand Vitara SUV hasn't been that successful.

More than 15 million cars in the country were sold out over the last few decades; almost 14 million were compact cars. Many of these car owners are looking to shift up and the company wants to make sure that they have the vehicles the customers are looking for, with the launch of celerio, a small car with an automatic version is the perfect example and there is an increase in bookings made which can guarantee more months of production. In order to sustain its leadership, the company will have to upsize its models. "Compact cars will continue to be our forte, but we need to strengthen our presence in bigger cars," senior executive of Maruti Suzuki Pareek said.

The launch of multiple new models at such a time is definitely a good thing for Maruti. It is clear that new models are driving demand in the market today.
