Samsung Marketing Arm Cheil Bets Big On India over China


BENGALURU: The global Marketing, Public Relations and Advertising firm, Cheil Worldwide is now planning to surge up the business in India under the lights of ‘Digital India.’ Cheil, which is now under the Samsung, plans to be self reliant, as reported by the ET

Cheil recently acquired Britannia, the Landmark Group, Sbarro, Supertech, and Spencer’s and Sonalika with looking for few more acquisitions in the near future. Hence the company looks to expand itself here than its market in China.

As a consequence, if the reports have to be believed, Cheil is acquiring more than 15 firms that have impressive background and visualization. The ET has also learned that, by taking emerging Indian market into the account, the company is looking for manifold acquisitions and has planned to setup a firm base in Mumbai, before the New Year.

On a futuristic note the company has been appointing some of the big players in the industry, since the past December and here goes the list; former TBWA Chief Shiv Sethuraman to the newly-created position of Group President, South West Asia, in its Gurgaon office. It hired Sonal Narain, formerly head of planning at Ogilvy Singapore, as Chief Strategy Officer. On the other hand, the company also has figured out its future on pitching into E-commerce, Telecom and Pharma sectors.

Global Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, Michael Cheonsoo Kim said “"For the past six months, we have been working on looking for adtech agencies for acquisitions; the potential of growth in this vertical is so much that we could be looking at multiple acquisitions."
