Retailers tell companies to deliver products ASAP after manufacturing

BENGALURU: Since last two months, consumers have become much aware of the food products and beverages that they buy, thanks to the Maggi conspiracy which has led to this fallout. Customers have become more keen in looking behind the packs rather than on its front, they look for manufacturing date as well as the nutritional information involved in making such products. Retailers are now demanding the suppliers to deliver their food products within a time period of 5 days.

Food Safety And Standards Authority Of India (FSSAI) has further added that, it will hold the retailers for selling the products those are not approved. These stringent rules are laid down because consumer awareness over food safety has now grown tremendously. On an average, food products take around 10 days to be delivered from the manufacturing plant to the food shelf’s of the retail stores, according to a report published by The Economic Times.

Retailers now in the country are requesting for fresh food products that have a higher number of shelf life. Retailers have become wary of consumer backlash in case of any expired products sold in their stores. The general policy of FSSAI is that they don’t let any food items to be placed on store shelf’s which has a shelf life of less than 70 percent.

This initiative has now been placed in many large retail supply chains including Big Bazaar, Wallmart, More and Spar. After the controversy of Maggi now the general public is taking a few guidelines to check whatever they are buying from stores because they don’t want to get fooled twice regarding the same issue.
