Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has arrived in New Zealand to accelerate discussions on a proposed Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the two countries. Sharing his plans on X, Goyal said he is 'delighted' to be in New Zealand to review the progress of the ongoing FTA negotiations.
During his visit, Goyal is set to meet with New Zealand’s Minister of Trade, Todd McClay, to work towards a comprehensive and mutually beneficial trade partnership. The talks are expected to help fast-track the economic framework currently being negotiated.
In addition to trade officials, Goyal will also meet with local industry leaders and investors to explore new opportunities for collaboration and investment. The latest round of negotiations, which began on November 3 in Auckland, marks the fourth phase since the talks were officially launched on March 16, 2025.

Bilateral trade between India and New Zealand reached $1.3 billion in 2024-25, reflecting a nearly 49% jump from the previous year. Key Indian exports to New Zealand include textiles, pharmaceuticals, refined petroleum, machinery, electronics, and basmati rice. New Zealand’s major exports to India consist of agricultural products, coal, fruits like apples and kiwifruit, dairy, meat, and timber.
With trade momentum growing, the talks aim to further unlock potential in sectors critical to both economies.
