Obama Lays A Boulevard of Dreams Before India

BENGALURU: The Obamas finally signed off their India visit with a humble ‘Namaste.’ The way in which Obama couple graced the Indians will be cherished for years to come. We Indians can never forget the leaders who truly cared for us, we name cities and streets in their memorial— such is our gratitude towards a good deed. Obama’s India visit is certainly one of a kind that marks great prospects in the economic as well as social ties among both the nations.

Besides the civil nuclear deal that took the duo’s relations to another notch there are much more vital things that matter. The fact that the leaders of both the nations built bonhomie like no other leaders did in the recent past is a point to note. However as Obama’s trip to India turned out to be a huge success there are some major takeaways that place both the nations in a win-win situation. The Economic Times has listed out such breakthrough deals during the visit:

The Visit Broke Indo-U.S. Logjam: The completion of U.S.-India nuclear ties cannot be overstated.India-US Sign a Civil Nuclear Deal The deal that was signed in 2005 has been in a limbo ever since. Both Obama and Modi announced that the "breakthrough" had been arrived at in the civil nuclear deal—which ended decades of India's nuclear isolation because of its refusal to sign the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT).

Though the immediate details regarding the agreement are not broken officially it is said that India will set up an insurance pool led by General Insurance Co and four other insurance companies of a total amount of 750 crore to indemnify companies that build reactors in the country against liabilities in case of a nuclear accident. The remaining 750 crore of the total Rs 1,500 crore to offset liabilities will be provided by the government of India.
