Muffin Break to Enter India, Plans 40 Outlets in 2 Yrs


New Delhi: Australian bakery cafe chain Muffin Break is set to make its India debut in the next three months and plans to open up to 40 outlets in the next two years.

The chain that currently operates 260 outlets in different parts of the globe has appointed Delhi-based restaurant management company Sub-One Hospitality Services as its master franchisee for India.

"The first Muffin Break outlet will come up in the next 2-3 months and in the next two years we should have about 30-40 stores in India," Sub-One Hospitality Services CEO Pradeep Sehgal told reporters.

Sub-One Hospitality Services will set up the first two to three stores in India as the master franchisee and the subsequent ones will be licensed out to other interested parties, he added.

Since the first Muffin Break store was opened in Queensland in Australia in 1989, the chain currently has 180 outlets in Australia, 36 in New Zealand and 44 in the United Kingdom.

Sub One Hospitality is also the master franchisee of American quick service restaurant brand Quiznos which is expanding in India with plans to set up around 150 outlets in the northern and western regions of the country in the next five years.

Quiznos had recently opened its first outlet in Delhi. Launched in Denver in 1981, Quiznos is currently present in 35 countries through more than 4,000 restaurants.
