Mobile Retailers Take On Online Rivals, Promise 4 Hrs Delivery

BENGALURU: In order to compete with online companies like Amazon and Flipkart, mobile phone retailers such as UniverCell, The Mobile Store, Sangeetha Mobiles and Hotspot are offering guaranteed delivery of gadgets within 4 hours of placing the order, reports The Economic Times.

The Mobile Store, Chief Executive, Alok Gupta said, “The Mobile Store has the country’s largest mobile phone retail chain with over 550 stores across 90 cities, besides selling through various others dealers like UniverCell and Hotspot”, reports ET.

However, the company has plans to tie up with price comparison engines like mysmartprie.com and jungle.com, to generate more sales.

With the old trend of walk-in customers still in practice, generating 60 percentages of mobile sales in the country, 40 percent rely on online shopping for products.

According to Subhash Chandra, Managing Director, Sangeetha Mobile, “We need to make Noise about it”, that home-delivery should bein less than 2 hours in the city. Moreover, Chennai and Hyderabad are trying to bring out a less than 2 hour delivery to customers.

Mobile phone retailers like UniverCell, plans to sell smartphones on exchange of old ones, which they believe is a strategy to increase more customers and yet offer exciting finance schemes.

Recently, the Retailers Association of India filed a petition in the Delhi High Court, seeking the Courts to intervene into online retailers FDI rules, and argued that most online companies are operating like retailers within their own warehouse.

Moreover, traditional retailers believe that there is plenty of room for both industries to flourish, as India is a country where one billion devices are sold with only a tenth of it as smartphones are sold in a year.
