BANGALORE: The Indian Super League Football began on 11th October, 2014 with Peter Reid's Mumbai City losing  to Atletico de, Kolkata (3-0). There was a huge excitement over a league which aims to increase the popularity of the sport in the country where cricket dominates. This 10-week, eight-team tournament is a new chapter in the history of Indian football.

Indian middle class who normally watch Manchester United and Barcelona in the comfort of their homes have turned up to see Indian football for the first time in Kolkata. Most of them turned up to get a glance of the Bollywood stars. But for the other half, the highlight was to catch a glimpse of cricket legend, Sachin Tendulkar who is also the co-owner of the ISL team, Kerala Blasters.

Many view that India needs a football version of Tendulkar. If this league can find one such a player, then India might just make it to a World Cup Football.
