Labour Ministry Says It Plans Timely Disposal Of Claims And Industrial Disputes


NEW DELHI: The Labour ministry plans "timely disposal" of various claims and industrial disputes in 2014-15 to improve harmonious relations between employers and employees.

The Outcome Budget 2014-15 for ministry of Labour and Employment tabled in the Parliament today said it also plans to carry out more than 9,000 mines inspections during 2014-15 for getting assurance regarding "compliance to the statutes".

"The ministry deals with 44 labour laws in central sphere. CLC(C) would take specific steps during 2014-15 to improve harmonious relations between employers and employees and to safeguard interests of workers by ensuring timely disposal of claim cases (2300), industrial disputes (5200) and conducting inspections (36000)," the executive summary of the Outcome Budget 2014-15 said.

It also said that DGMS oversees compliance to the statutes related to mines safety by mines management and guides them to maintain requisite work standards and safety of equipment to facilitate reduction of risk of occupational disease and casualty of persons working in mines.

"It would carry out 9550 mines inspection during 2014-15 for getting an assurance regarding compliance to the statutes," the document said.

The document also talked about revamping the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojna (RSBY) to provide better health coverage to the unorganised workers belonging to BPL and other identified categories through a Smart card. Four crore eligible families are proposed to be covered during 2014-15, it said.

The document also said that around 45,000 children will be mainstreamed into formal education system in 2014-15 under National Child Labour Project while it also proposes to transform Employment exchanges into Career centres and vocational rehabilitation centres are proposed to be restructured to increase their outreach and impact, it said.

It said that budgetary allocation for the year 2014-15 includes Rs 2448.60 crore under Plan and Rs 3159.73 crore under Non Plan.
