Indian Market Will Not Be Affected By American-U.S. Airways Merger

Bangalore: The Indian market is going to remain unaffected if the meager takes place between U.S. Airways and American, according to Kapil Kaul, Chief Executive Officer, Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation.

The U.S. government has given green signal for both the airline companies to merge and become world’s largest airline in the world. Once the tie up takes place there could be more than 1,000 aircraft released within a short period, reports Ashwini Phadnis of Business Line.

However, Kapil pointed out that U.S. Airways and American were expected to merge and he said that the US market will be impacted the most.

“We do not see American Airlines flying to India in the near to medium term,’’ he said and added that one will have to see what will happen to the tie-up between American and Emirates.

“The tie-up will make Emirates operations in and out of the U.S. very competitive and can help drive more traffic from India,’’ Kapil said.
