Iconic Brands That Disappeared

Bangalore: Old brands never die. They just fade with time until someone realizes that they have disappeared from the market.  Here are some iconic brands which have vanished from the marketplace but not from our minds.

1. Pan American World Airways

Pan American World Airways, which was commonly known as Pan Am, was founded in 1927. The company originally intended to carry mail between the U.S. and Cuba but it expanded its international maneuver and updated its cluster of flights with the newest and most refined planes. This initiative became an advantage for the company as it was able to grab the tourism boom after World War II and eventually Pan Am became the leading international carrier.

Pan Am reached its apex during the 1960s and1970s and its blue globe logo became an iconic symbol of its leadership and superiority. However, it faced a financial setback because of two reasons. First - the terrorist bombing of Flight 103 in 1988 and secondl - the fuel prices hike due to the Gulf War. This company was unable to recover from this fiscal double-whammy. In 1991, it filed for a bankruptcy. In 2011, Pan American World Airways became the subject of a television series, “Pan Am,” which portrayed the lives of its pilots and stewardesses during its heydays.
