Govt Aims 100 MW Solar Power Generation By 2016


NEW DELHI: The urban development ministry Tuesday said it aims to generate 100 MW of solar power with solar panels installed on rooftops of over 600 buildings in 18 states.

According to a memorandum of understanding signed by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) and the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) here Tuesday, the CPWD would provide 629 buildings owned and maintained by it in 18 states for installing solar photovoltaic projects on rooftops by SECI.

While CPWD is a construction major under the urban development ministry, SECI is an entity which works for the new and renewable energy ministry.

The target for solar power generation in West Bengal was set at 43 MW, and 17 MW in Delhi.
