Gamblers Betting High on the Indian Market

Bangalore: “Cricket is a gentle man’s game”, but the recent red hot headlines have successfully proved every bit and part of the saying wrong! The current scandals associated with the game have brought up innumerable questions which the cricket association is facing hard to answer.

The most prominent question that has popped up is whether Indian Premier League is promoting Gaming or Gambling?

In 2009 former Sports Minister MS Gill grudged out at the BCCI stating that the board is using the cash-rich Indian Premier League to bundle more money despite promoting the game of cricket in the country.

"This is viewed as `openly encouraging gambling and betting`, which official bodies do not resort to, even in countries where betting is legal; all this `to make money and enlarge their TV viewership base", said Gill, reports Zeenews.com.

Worried about the "commercial use of cricket for business gains", Gill disparaged the BCCI for launching an SMS game which facilitates fans to make ball by ball predictions and win cash prizes during the on going game.

Though many are trying to sweep the scandals under the rug, it would not be wrong to say that IPL has become an open secret among the famed means of gambling.
