French Fries, the Largest Selling Snack In India

Bangalore: While ‘French’ revolution is increasing in the Indian business, fried potato slices and French fries have become the fastest selling snacks in India. French fries are not just moving fast in fast-food restaurants like McDonald's and KFC, but they are among the highest selling frozen food in normal retailers as well, reports Writankar Mukherjee and Ratna Bhushan of Economic Times.

French fries are among the top three items that are billed and largely sold side-dish in the fast-food chain of restaurants like KFC and McDonald's. In retail chains like Spencer and big-bazaar, among the frozen food items, French fries has replaced other poplar potato snacks like aloo paratha, vada pav and pakoras. Infact, frozen food marketer, McCain also confessed that French fries are among the top selling product in the country.

Tarun Lal, KFC's general manager for India, said, “Potatoes are a quintessential part of the Indian eating habit, which is where French fries fit in... they are easily sharable and dippable in ketchup or other condiments, which is inherently how we snack."
