E-com Players to Woo Customers with Big Discounts This Diwali

BENGALURU: To encourage online customers shop more and expand the customer base, e-commerce players are all set to sketch new ways and methods of discounts for the upcoming festive season. Aggressive discount options will be available for the customers especially in home, kitchen and décor sector, reports Economic Times.

Vice President of Snapdeal said, "We are developing a host of solutions for our 1.5-lakh sellers to help them pre-empt demand through analysis of consumer behaviour and stock-up their inventory accordingly.” Last year, the website had witnessed a 15pct hike in web traffic.

The discount strategy will be more flexible for app users with 5pct additional discount as reward, cashback or wallet points, mainly aimed to revive the existing customers.

In case of e-commerce, the principal determinant of best merchandise is Gross merchandise volume (GMV). This also highlights the maximum investor of the same sector.

"In the campaign starting next month, there will be differentiated offerings for loyal customers. We have started working with cashback and loyalty programmes through Cluebucks, which can be redeemed for future transactions. As opposed to previous years, the assortment cover has gone down and only certain categories get promoted," commented Nitin Agarwal, senior director of marketing at Tiger Global-backed ShopClues.

This time, regulations and offers will mainly aim on the mobile customers as they are new and rising in number.

Online portal Paytm plans to promote wallet downloads as Saurabh Vashishtha, vice-president for Paytm reveals "Discounts combined with attractive cash backs will be offered. The actual benefits would vary for different categories."

Leads from different websites like CouponDunia and CashKaro shared their worthy views.

Co-founder of CashKaro said, "We have seen the minimum order value on flat-out discounts go up over the years and the discounts are conservative at 20-30%. In India, loyalty points are not generous, as a result of which the uptake by online buyers has been slow.”

Ankita Tandon, COO of CouponDunia forecasts, "Food tech companies will be among the new players in discount space.”
