E-Commerce Companies to Verify the Identity of Consumers

BANGALORE: As the e-commerce companies are facing loss through various fake orders and product returns, the companies are planning to team up with organizations which will help them to attain information about the consumers even before they ship the products, reports The Economic Times.

Nowadays the fake users are being a trouble for e-commerce giants like Flipkart and Snap deal. Thus the companies are in a discussion with telecom companies since the tie up will help identify whether the person is at the location before delivering cash on delivery. The increasing numbers of cash on delivery rejections are also a root cause for e-traders seeking such change.

The verification process may benefit the users since it might cut down the delivery charge. ‘Zumigo’ is a startup backed by Wells Fargo and Intel Capital and the platform helps to check the liability of a consumer. According to the chief executive of the company Chirag Bahkshi, "We identify the name and address through mobile number and credit card information, this is enabling security and identity. We are using identity to facilitate fast payment for sale. You can use it to make payment at any browser site"

But in India it is difficult to tie up with credit bureaus, the managing director of Experian Credit Information Company of India, Mohan Jayaraman explains the situation, "We are regulated under Credit Information Companies Regulation Act (CIRCA), which does not allow us to share information with anybody other than specified user,"
