Bangalore: The mergers between big corporations have been looked at with apprehension and rightly so for there have been many a failed marriages. But there are some mergers where the resulting combine has gone on to add incredible value to the industry and become a force to be reckoned with. Here‘s a look on 5 such successful mergers:



Pfizer and Pharmacia Corporation
The research-based pharmaceutical giant Pfizer acquired Pharmacia Corporation for $89.2bn in 2003.The move was made to expand its product base and to expand their research capabilities. They had a research and development budget of $7.1 billion in 2003. The combination has been a fruitful one making Pfizer the biggest Pharmaceutical company and has fuelled growth. Pfizer has received numerous awards in areas including business and financial operations, corporate governance, employee relations and workplace environment, and philanthropy. Newsweek ranked Pfizer 21st of Top 500 US and 20th of Top 100 Global Green Companies in 2010.Their MS LifeLines call center was awarded for their outstanding customer service by J.D. Power and Associates in 2012.They were ranked first in the medicine and health care industry in an annual ranking conducted by Antal International in 2011. They posted Q2 2012 Revenues of $15.1 Billion, excluding Discontinued Operations Revenues of $581 Million from the Nutrition business.
