And It's A Tie! Apple And Samsung Are The World's Best Smartphone Sellers

BANGALORE: The technology giant Apple has teamed-up with Korean Smartphone maker in the fourth quarter of 2014. It seems this is the result of the fantastic market sales of iPhone 6.

Apple has announced financial results for its fiscal 2015 first quarter that ended in December 27, 2014. The company posted record quarterly revenue of $74.6 billion and record quarterly net profit of $18 billion, or $3.06 per diluted share. These results are in compare to revenue of $57.6 billion and net profit of $13.1 billion, or $2.07 per diluted share, in the year-ago quarter.

The results were fueled by all-time record revenue from iPhone and Mac sales as well as record performance of the App Store iPhone unit sales of 74.5 million also set a new record. On the other hand, Samsung also hit the market with almost same number of units, although this was a downfall from the 86 million the previous year.

If we look back at the statistics, surely Samsung has out beaten the other smartphone makers. In India, Samsung is the largest vendor smartphone which can be seen from the results of third quarter in 2011. The South Korean electronics giant then went on to replace Nokia as the global leader, largely in mobile phone sales in the first quarter of 2012.

According to Strategy Analyst, "Samsung continues to face intense competition from Apple at the higher-end of the smartphone market, from Huawei in the middle-tiers and from Xiaomi and others at the entry-level. Samsung may soon have to consider taking over rivals, such as Blackberry, in order to revitalize growth this year,” reports NDTV gadgets.

Over the past year, Samsung's market-leading position has been under blockade from a resurgent Apple and rising Chinese contenders like Xiaomi.

Taking 2014 as a whole, Samsung still remained the top smartphone vendor with total shipments of 317.2 million units, followed by Apple's 192.7 million.
