Ambani Brothers Reconcile and Merge Businesses to Fulfill their Father's Dream

BENGALURU: Aiming to work together and achieve greater heights in the Indian telecom sector, the Ambani brothers have reunited after almost a decade. Youngest of the two, Anil Ambani stated that he will be working with his elder brother––Anil Ambani.

A recent tweet from the Anil Ambani’s Reliance Group stated that, "Anil Ambani & Mukesh Ambani are working hand in hand to create the India Shri Dhirubhai Ambani dreamt of." Talking to the shareholders of Reliance Communications+ (RCom), Anil Ambani commented that all the telecom services managed by Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio+ and RCom have collaborated virtually. Anil also added that RJio and RCom have effectively started sharing the major components of their telecom infrastructure, such as the optical fibre networks mobile towers, RJio+’s 4G LTE services, and RCom’s spectrum and electronics.

Although Anil Ambani’s comments seemed clear, later, Reliance group officials stated that their chairman was not indicating any kind of legal merger. To make things more transparent, a senior official from the Reliance Group further explained that the two firms are not merging on a legal basis. They are sharing the entire infrastructure to make 4G available to every RCom customer, just like the RJio customers. Furthermore, the two have already signed an agreement to share spectrum, allowing RJio to use RCom’s spectrum for their 2G and 3G services.

Over a decade ago, the two brothers chose independent paths to form two companies under the Reliance Group built by Dhirubhai Ambani (Father). Back then, the split was considered as the country’s most high profile industrial split. Bonding between the two will now be focusing on fulfilling their father’s dream of connecting India.
