Airtel To Launch New 4G Tariffs To Compete With Reliance Jio

BENGALURU: Reliance disrupted the telecom market with the launch of its much-anticipated 4G service Jio. Since then the tariff war has started between the Reliance Jio Infocomm and other telecom companies because Reliance giving free calls and cheap data plans- totally changed the market scenario for other companies. However, Business Insider reported that Airtel is all set to launch new 4G offers which will help a company to stand strongly in the market.

Airtel despite being a leading telecom operator in the Indian market is struggling with the sluggish growth in the data revenue because of the market competition. MD of Airtel, Gopal Vittal said that it is not easy to compete with the likes of free services that Jio is providing. However, Airtel is looking for the full-fledged prices that Reliance is going to launch in December but Airtel will also launch aggressive 4G packs to compete with them.

According to the reports, because of the free services by Reliance Jio the data revenue growth of Airtel dropped down by 10 percent in the September quarter. The revenue growth of 24 percent in September is lowest so far. Airtel expected that by the end of December Jio will make a customer base of 40Mn. The net profit of Airtel is dropped by five percent in the September quarter.

Airtel is also planning to approach the TRAI to clear all confusions of the Point of Interconnections (PoIs) which they claim to be ahead of other telecom operators. Vittal said there is some confusion in TRAI’s decision on providing PoIs to Jio. TRAI imposed a combined penalty of 3, 050 crores on Idea, Vodafone, and Airtel for not giving PoIs to Jio Infocomm. Jio also received a clean chit from TRAI for all tariff plans and lifetime free voice calls as TRAI said all these comes within the rules.
