#9 Murder Scene Clean-Up

A service franchise located at Wichita, Kan., has taken up an unusual venture, cleaning up the crime scenes! Originally a company that is specialized in cleaning and disaster restoration, the SerivceMaster by Best, dedicates part of its time to cleaning up murder scenes, where most of the others make a fuss. 

The owner Sam Lazarus seems to be much hopeful about this additional offering of the company as he said that the company gets called upon several times a year to help clean up the blood, fluids and other damage incurred by homes and businesses that become the scene of various bloody incidents. "We are trained to deal with blood-borne pathogens," Lazarus said while talking of his unique proficiencies. 

At the crime spot Lazarus' staff suit themselves up in protective gear and spray the place with a germicidal agent and then, using an abrasive brush they try and clean as much as possible, he said. Things like carpet or drywall that can't be cleaned are removed, and special air filters and pumped-in ozone help relieve the odor. 

Since the job environment and conditions are so rough, the employees are given the option to pass on the job they don't feel comfortable with. Only those with guts are given the job and they are rewarded handsomely depending how awful the scene is. 

According to Lazarus, the time for cleaning up the crime scene varies as how the spot is contaminated and the cost of a crime scene cleanup can range from $1,000 to as high as six figures for some tougher jobs.
