1. Warren Buffett: Berkshire Hathaway

Born in 1930, Warren Buffett, chairman, CEO, is the most successful investor of the 20th century and the largest shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway. He is consistently ranked among the world's wealthiest people. Buffett became a paper billionaire at the age of 60 when Berkshire Hathaway began selling class A shares on May 29, 1990, with the market closing at $7,175 a share.

On 14 August 2014, the price of Berkshire Hathaway's shares hit $200,000 a share for the first time, capitalizing the company at $328 billion. Buffett is called the "Wizard of Omaha" or "Oracle of Omaha", or the "Sage of Omaha" and is noted for his adherence to value investing and for his personal frugality despite his immense wealth. 

Buffett is a notable philanthropist, having pledged to give away 99 percent of his fortune to philanthropic causes, primarily via the Gates Foundation.
