China leads, having crossed 1 billion connections and closed Q2 with 1,047 million connections in total. Bharti Airtel
It has emerged the fourth largest mobile operator with 250.04 million connections globally(data compiled includes Indian and African operations). It is also the only group other than China Unicom ,which is placed sixth ,to gain in position in the top 10 rankings .This move was fuelled by a 13 percent year-on-year increase in the number of connections. It had earlier been ranked the fifth largest mobile operator after it bought the mobile operations of Zain Group spread over 15 African countries in June 2010, stated a statement issued by the operator. Also notable as per the report ,is the significant revenue gap between the top three telecom players and Bharti Airtel and its  mobile earnings which stood at $3.04 billion at the end of Q2,2012 is also a reflection on  Bharti’s low cost, low margin operations in both India and Africa.
