3 Companies Taking Away Android's Control From Google


BENGALURU: The software ecosystem is gradually shifting its focus from Android powered Smartphones to Forked Android powered phones. Several companies like CyanogenMod, Xiaomi and Samsung are the key players in promoting the growth of third-party Android OS, that wants to be free from Google’s clutches of its OS, reports The Motley Fools.

CyanogenMod is an open adversary to Google’s Android OS. The company has launched its own Smartphone in collaboration with OnePlus team. Microsoft has signed for a strategic partnership with the CyanogenMod to feature their products like MS Office, Bing search engine and much more.

Xiaomi is an upcoming Smartphone company that has seen nearly 50 percent growth recently. However, the Chinese company uses its own forked version of Android known as MIUI. In China, Google is banned and thus they use Baidu search engine. Microsoft is trying to seize this opportunity and collaborating with Xiaomi to promote its own products. Xiaomi is taking this collaboration one step further by considering porting Windows 10 to its Smartphones and is making software to help users successfully port to Windows from Android.

Samsung is depending on Google for its Operating System needs. Being the world’s largest Smartphone maker, the company is trying to deviate away from Google’s control and providing alternate applications for Samsung Smartphones. For Google Pay, the company launched Samsung Pay. To provide health features, it offers S Health. Samsung is another such company, which is willing to collaborate with Microsoft to launch Smartphones with preloaded Microsoft apps.
