Bangalore: There are many successful companies in the world generating immense amount of revenue in the countries they are based in. Some companies make profit and grow bigger and then expand their business internationally. Yet other companies make profit in their parent country, pay huge corporate taxes, become the major part of the country’s economy and sometimes they even dominate their countries.

#1 ArcelorMittal

ArcelorMittal S A, a Luxembourg based global steel company has ranked at first globally in the companies that are world’s powerhouses, with 161 percent revenue of GDP as of 2011.

It is the largest steel producing company in the world and the market leader in steel used for automotive, construction, home appliances and packaging. It has enough captive supplies of raw materials and it operates extensive distribution networks.

Formed in 2006 by the takeover of Arcelor by Mittal Steel, has ranked 70th on Fortune Global 500 list in 2012. Though the company is headquatered in Luxembourg, ArcelorMittal in fact runs from Berkeley Square, London. Aditya Mittal, the son of the company chairman, says, “ArcelorMittal headquarters may be in Luxembourg, but the ‘power is in London.’

#2 Essar Energy

Country of domicile for world’s second largest company, Essar Energy is Mauritius, making 132 percent revenue of GDP.  It is listed on the London Stock Exchange. It is also a constituent of the FTSE 250 Index.

Essar Energy is an Indian-focused energy company with assets in power and oil and gas businesses. A subsidiary of Essar Group, Essar Energy has interests in both power generation and petroleum industries.
