How Project Management Is Used In IT Environments

There is no disputing the importance of project management when it comes to the  IT industry.  IT project management in volves every thing from developing software to cloud computing, hardware installations, data management and looking at business analytics (as well as every thing in between). 3.  Execution: As soon as the plan is realised, the project team then work on ways that they can create deliver ables and bring their planning into fruition. The project will shift in terms of planning as required.

4.   Monitoring: The project manager plays an integral part when it comes to ensure that the project plan is followed and works on controlling the time, scope, costs, risks and other factors involved in the process.

5.   Closing: Once the project has been completed, project closure occurs. At this stage the project is approves and various different targets are approved and ownership transferred away from the project team to the other relevant departments.

LifeCycle

The types of approaches you use when it comes to managing an IT project can work wonders when it comes to impacting on the life cycle on a project. The following approaches can help to reduce the risk of reworking a project and can alter the way that it is executed and worked through:


  • Predictive life cycle - The most common and traditional project life cycle and allows the project manager to identify the scope, schedule and costs associated with the project.

  • Iterative life cycle - This approach essentially works in defining the path that the project will take early on how ever the costs and activity of the project are planned on a higherl evel early on.

  • Adaptive life cycle - This cycle utilises the idea of planning and execution and is completed over the course of two weeks. This approach works through rolling out a long term planning solution by short term bursts of action that allow the project to fall into place.

IT project can sometimes fall at the first hurdle as there is a great deal of risk when it comes to implementing the use of a new piece of tech for the first time.
