Higher Studies
I have been a software engineer for six years. But I do not see any growth for me (other than financial) in my company without higher studies. I have a B.E. in electronics from an Indian regional engineering college. Do you recommended higher studies for me? If yes, should I go for MS, MIS, or MBA? --Manas Pati
It seems you are not enjoying what you are doing. Before you do anything else, do some real soul-searching about your career. In hindsight, after almost 30 years of working, I often question my past career choices. Isn't it better that you do this early in your career? Realize also that financial gains are never the primary reason for career success. Really successful people are those who are doing something that they thoroughly enjoy, and find themselves pursuing a profession they have a passion for. These people find that monetary gains follow happiness -- in abundance.
Having said this, I do not think you have to get a higher degree (although it helps) to have career success. There are professionals with only a bachelor’s degree from India who have built business empires! The important factors are drive, enthusiasm, commitment, a can-do attitude and acute focus.
