Wireless: The way to go
By Pradeep Shankar

Wireless vendors have for long highlighted the benefits of going wireless: The top most among them being
increased productivity. The efficiency studies are many and they point out the same: Wireless keeps information at employee’s fingertips, facilitates quicker decision making, reduces downtime, and enables collaboration.

CIOs across the board believe that mobile workforce automation solutions will enable tangible improvements in three key areas: Worker productivity, order-to-cash cycles, and revenue growth. The underlying belief is that mobile solutions will bolster overall profitability and customer retention. Many surveys point out that CIOs’ priority spending areas include planned field workforce technology investments in the next 18 months. In this issue we feature Somerset, NJ-based Openstream, which is in the forefront of mobile workforce automation. Its USP— a platform solution based on open standards is capable of delivering mobile services from any data source, over any network, and to any device in any mode — is currently keeping it ahead of others trying to compete in this space. The founders’ contribution to the standards body as well as the company’s strong linkages with the likes of IBM, Intel, and Motorola should help it gain good traction in the market. Right now, it is the vendors like Openstream who are pushing enterprises to adopt wireless. In the end, customers will decide to go the wireless way as they have already begun appreciating its benefits, since it will make the most business sense. Along with providing value for businesses and customers, it’s exciting to see the wireless world unfold itself in everything we do.
