Jasper Wireless, since 2004 delivers the only purpose-built platform for IoT, providing everything companies require to launch, manage and monetize business process in a connected world. In April, 2014, Jasper's total funding was estimated to be $205 million.

The Internet of Things (IoT) revolution is reshaping the way enterprises function across all industries. Thriving on IoT, businesses and processes are shifting away from offline operations to a connected world, thereby causing an overall transformation of their respective business models, relationships with customers, and organizational structures.

The number of new IoT initiatives arriving in the market worldwide continues to increase at an accelerated pace, going beyond a handful of industries. Another major trend with respect to several industries is the on-going cross-industry adoption. The Connected Car space is another interesting aspect. Innovative automotive OEMs are leading the way with integrated solutions that improve safety, security and convenience. As car manufacturers roll out LTE in their connected vehicles, drivers and passengers would be the beneficiaries of an astounding range of new benefits and experiences, including infotainment platforms wherein users stream videos, games and other data-rich services.

Other industries are also evolving to provide services supported by in-vehicle connectivity. Moreover, these vehicles are found in Smart Cities where active implementation of IoT is taking place.

The industry in the Upcoming Years

Several aspects are set to change the industry in the upcoming years including a shift to service, development of LTE and increased national investment in IoT.

Analysts predict that about twenty to thirty billion "things" would connect to the Internet by 2020. However, those "things" are mere tools that help businesses establish a direct connection with their customers. Despite the hype around these gadgets, the IoT is not about things: it's about Service. The extension of the Internet to the physical world is shifting business value from products themselves to the services that they result in.
The world is vastly embracing the LTE technologies, which enables superior speed across networks. The entire IoT landscape in India would be witnessing the impacts of LTE.

Use of faster networks would act as a catalyst for IoT across vertical industries. As mentioned above, this especially applies to connected car infotainment services. Also, going forward, other markets such as digital signage and consumer electronics would be made faster and more reliable with LTE.

With the governing bodies gaining awareness on the potential of the IoT to fully transform the physical world into a connected fabric, high-level investments can be expected. With investments, the opportunities are on the rise with respect to education, talent, infrastructure, materials and most of all, the motivation needed to enable the Internet of Things to reach its full potential.

Overcoming Challenges

Entrepreneurs face the tough task to take the identified opportunities and potential to the market so as to take those opportunities to an international level. Connected businesses require more than just a device, an app and a way to connect to the internet to be launched.

Delivery of connected services at scale requires special skill sets and infrastructure including technologies, processes and operational systems that are fully integrated across the wireless landscape. This is a critical issue that Jasper is trying to address. The turnkey software solutions from Jasper help companies of all sizes navigate the transition from product to service business and enable them to quickly, cost-effectively get their IoT service businesses up and running.

In a nutshell, entrepreneurs would have to gather the resources, materials, labor and adapt an innovative thinking to forge ahead to create the business of the future.
