Spime, a Fremont, California based company is a provider of wide range of location-based technologies and application. Spime has developed the next generation LBS solution, which is targeted to solve the complex LBS implementation challenges faced by the mobile device OEMs, ODMs and mobile operators around the world.

Spime’s technology and solutions include NorthStar “ Widget Frame Work ”(WFW) which bundles location enabling component, complete turn-by-turn voice assisted Navigation (Onboard, Off-board & Hybrid) and seamless native connectivity to the contacts, address book, calendar, and email and SMS on the device. Widgets developed on top of the WFW automatically gets all the functionality mentioned above. Spime provides various location and Navigation enabled widgets for popular social networking companies, traffic, weather, buddy finder and many brand icon widgets.

Dow Jones selected Spime as one of the 70 upcoming innovative wireless startups in the US. Spime is on to its third year of operations has major operations at Silicon Valley-US, Chennai- India, Taipei-Taiwan, Singapore and plans to open offices in Europe in 2009. The company also has plans to launch a mobile commerce consumer solution through four telecom operators in the Asia-Pacific region, including India. Says Shankar Narayanan, CEO, “We are in discussion with them very shortly to enable Spime to launch this mobile Commerce solution in India.”

Spime accelerates location-enablement through a patent-pending LBS application development platform. “We make it easy to bring new LBS applications onto any portable hand-held devices,” states Narayanan. The company has developed location-enabling capabilities for numerous application developers. Developments include buddy finder apps, ecommerce apps, advertising and social networking apps. The company helps major brands leverage their identity to drive new revenue opportunities.

Spime has partnered with industry leaders in the location map domain such as Navteq, which is acquired by Nokia and TeleAtlas, which has been acquired by German-based Tom Tom, one of the leading GPS devices Manufacturers in the world. It also partnered with AutoDesk and deCarta, the LBS platform companies, SiRF; the leading GPS chip provider, Tele Communication System, SUPL Server Company and Microsoft.

Starting with just five professionals, this privately held company now has over 40 personnel, and expects staff members to rise over to over 100 by 2009. The company hopes to end 2009 with a profitable revenue and expects turnover to touch $70-$80 million by 2011.
