Led by Interwest Partners Optena Inc. raised $3 million in Series A round of financing. Founded in 2002 by Surendra Reddy, Optena is a grid computing company that strongly supports the Condor open source grid computing technology and develops products based on this technology.

Optena delivers sense-and-respond enterprise infrastructure software that enables organizations to continuously and automatically align and re-align IT resource applications based on business priorities. The company creates automated, fluid computing pools from disparate processing silos, enabling GRID, utility and on-demand or adaptive computing environments. These pools are in turn allocated to applications or processes in real-time based on availability matched according to business or application priorities.

Optena’s solutions allow enterprises to increase the average utilization of servers up to 70 to 80 percent unlike the conventional utilization of 15 to 20 percent per server.

This increases the productivity of IT professionals in managing these resources by up to 10 times over other solutions.

The advanced management capabilities offered by Optena enables more IT resources to be managed by fewer professionals. This allows the management to re-allocate scarce IT professionals towards new, innovative and strategic IT projects. “Based on our customer experiences, IT management can expect reductions of 50 percent or more in both capital and operational expenditures after implementing our software,” says Reddy.
