PMI Bangalore hosts PMPC 2008 marking 10 years of service

Bangalore witnessed a confluence of about 450 project management practitioners from over 12 industries and sectors at the Project Management Practitioners' Conference (PMPC) 2008 held from 18-20 September. The three-day event was organized by the Bangalore chapter of Project Management Institute in order to celebrate the chapter's ten years of service. Being conducted since the past three years, this year's conference was conducted with the theme 'Architecting project management—Craft the future'.

Three high-powered panel discussions on Emerging Techologies and Trends in Project Management, Project Portfolio Management, and Nurturing Project Management Talent saw an enthusiastic participation of PM practitioners from different organizations. The panels saw in-depth discussion on how business dimensions influenced project trends, understanding of project portfolio management, build this knowledge into grater understanding, modifying it to our work context, practice and make it a habit.

Speaking at the conference were several eminent leaders like G. Madhavan Nair Chairman, ISRO; Subroto Bagchi Co-founder, MindTree; M. Ganesh, VP, IBM; R. Srikumar, Director-General & IG Police, and M. Krishnaswamy, Program Director Chandrayan - Moon mission.

In his keynote address, Bagchi shared his vision on what it takes to be a 'professional'. "As managers, it is important that we create an environment to reduce indiscipline, lack of aspiration and pursue our own survival," he said. Harishankaran, MD, ILFS, talked on 'Bridging the Digital Divide between Urban & Rural India' and brought to fore the astonishing growing trends like one out of every 10 people on earth lives in rural India and access to information, knowledge, goods or services are heavily skewed in favor of urban populations.

The conference showcased some of the best practices from various industries and provided opportunity
for interactions.
