Net worth of Networks
Pradeep Shankar
Monday, March 14, 2005
During my interactions with heads of multinationals, I’ve frequently heard most of them say: India is a great place to do business. When you look at the growing technology consumption in Indian market, and the Indian enterprises appetite to go global, I can truly see an ocean of potential market here for any MNC. While they are here for business, they also help drive technology adoption.

Each one’s strategy is different and unique. But in all the cases they have to adopt innovative strategies to understand the Indian mindset. Indian economy is growing at a healthy rate, it is interesting to see how multinational are trying to tap into this market.

Our recent understanding prods me to choose Cisco India. A company that is playing a vital role in driving communications using its own networks products in the country. If network is Cisco’s business, then e-enabling initiative is its strategy to delve into both India and Asia-Pacific markets.

Founder of Juniper Networks Pradeep Sindhu shares with us his vision for the next generation networks: Infranet.

As you’re witnessing siliconindia’s aim to write about how different businesses are leveraging technology to drive excellence in their operations. This time we spoke to two institutions, which are very core to our living: a hospital and bank.
For almost two decades now, Escorts Heart Hospital in New Delhi has kept itself healthy with a heavy stock and right prescription of IT. If IT could delay the onset of ones illness or expand ones lifespan then it’s indeed a dimension to the face of hospitals in the country.

Banking is another vertical today that is implementing IT for improvisation. It has gone to an extent of making its customers technology savvy with all kinds of Internet and mobile banking. ICICI Bank’s Joint Managing Director Lalita Gupte says: “For us technology is really a way of life and it’s the one factor that gave us a competitive edge as we transformed ourselves from a single product company into meeting the requirements of the consumer industry.” We went ahead and spoke to Pravir Vohra , ICICI’s CTO . And in this issue we have what he said.

For Indian enterprises venturing into the global arena it is important that they have a clear understanding of their value proposition. Dr. Sumantra Sengupta, an expert in consulting, discusses the metrics needed to govern the behaviors and actions of partners.

As always, it’s pleasure for us when you as a reader share your view about technology, business, quality of our content, and what you like us to cover. Please write to me at pradeep@siliconindia.com
