Handling Twin Responsibilities
Vimali Swamy
Friday, May 30, 2008
The newly appointed COO & VP - Global Delivery of Perot Systems, Gopinathan Padmanabhan, is one if the few pioneers who have handled global responsibilities while operating from India. A multifaceted person, Padmanabhan has over 28 years of experience in the global IT & consulting industry. Prior to joining Perot Systems, he was the Director - Technology, Process & Engineering Services, Global Delivery Application Services at HP GlobalSoft for over 7 years. At Perot Systems, Padmanabhan will be responsible for global operations associated with the delivery of Application Services and attainment of operational goals of the Consulting and Applications Solutions Business Unit. Earlier in his career, he had set up the U.S. East Coast operations of Deluxe-HCL as the Regional Manager and also held the position of Principal Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) in New Jersey, managing eBusiness consulting and project delivery assignments for Fortune 100 Pharma & IT customers.

A very people oriented person, people management comes to him naturally and working in multiple cultures has only sharpened those skills. Quite easy to approach, Padmanbhan is a strong believer in ethics, hard work and leading by example. His advise to young ‘techies’ is to grow technically and not to stick with just one technology. Also a good technologist may not be a good manager so one should be sure of one’s capabilities and should not be blinded by lucrative opportunities. Outside work he is a nature lover and loves hiking. He also has deep passion for music and books.
