Presently we are witnessing explosive growth in both structured and unstructured data; this is matched by an equally rapid growth in customer relational database environments. This trend is resulting in a huge SQL scalability problem. Customers have limited visibility into their database traffic and virtually have no ability to respond to traffic in order to quickly optimize database performance.

The database industry in general is a slow change industry, but there has been a massive upheaval in the last few years with the rise of NoSQL which offers limited features, but better performance. Due to continued customer investment in SQL databases, many vendors are coming out with solutions that seek to solve the SQL scalability or performance problems. ScaleArc is solving this global problem differently than everyone else. We do not ask customers to change their existing architecture; instead we focus on transparent database simplification and offer a simpler, more efficient approach.

Entrepreneurs have always faced the same challenges – basically, run an efficient organization, raise funding when the timing is right, and make sure your product and team are in synch. It is all about being able to stay ahead of the curve on product development, making sure that the product is addressing a customer pain point, and validating your successes in the market.

Now our main challenge is finding and hiring the right people. We are in a very services-centric market, so finding people who know how to build an end-to-end solution is a very difficult task. For example, we are looking to hire up to 40 new employees this year, with about 60 percent of those at our engineering headquarters in Mumbai, and the remainder in the U.S. We are looking to hire engineers with expertise in data analytics, data mining and information extraction, as well as some C, C++ and web developers who have done network architecture development, load balancing and built code that handles high-performance networks, this is not going to be an easy task.

Customer reception for our products has been phenomenal both in India and the U.S. so far, and we are expecting this to continue and we are really excited about the future.
