Friday, February 27, 2009
Driven by the need for a public-private joint effort to make Bangalore a safe city, the networking major Cisco has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the government of Karnataka. As per the MoU, Cisco will do a pilot project to develop a roadmap for an intelligent, smart, and sustainable Bangalore city. "Public safety, security, health care, and energy being our primary focuses, we are looking to work closely with Cisco in developing urban infrastructure for the citizens of Karnataka," says B.S.Yeddyurappa, Chief Minister, Karnataka.

Cisco claims that its 'Global Intelligent Urbanization' initiative is dedicated to offer services to manage complex city environments all around the world. Initially, Cisco will work with Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation and Karnataka Police to improve safety and security around one of the major bus terminals in the city through Cisco's networking and video surveillance solutions. The company says that the 10 year project would be cost-effective and would offer remote monitoring capabilities with real time information.
