Bangalore leads IT Pay Packets in India

Saturday, April 1, 2006
Potholes on Bangalore’s roads maybe deep but the techies pockets are deeper. The IT employees of the City laughed away with increases in salary far higher than the national average during 2005.

According to the findings of a nation-wide study by Nasscom-Hewitt Total Rewards, IT services sector saw an average salary rise of 16 percent and the BPO sector a 16-18 percent hike last year. The pay hikes at the entry level, however, has been less dramatic. The salary rise at the entry level was five per cent in the case of BPOs and 12 per cent for IT services.

Interestingly, it has been a trend that IT professionals working in Bangalore and the national capital region of Delhi always manage hikes better than other cities, and ahead of the national average. The trend continues this time too with little resistance from other cities.
