GEO Semiconductors: Creating New Markets with Leading-edge Solutions for Image & Video Processing

Date:   Monday , November 24, 2014

Peter Drucker, a management consultant, educator and author once said, \"Innovation is the specific instrument of entrepreneurship. The act that endows resources with a new capacity to create wealth\". Proving his wise words by commercializing over 115 patents that has given rise to newer markets is GEO Semiconductor, a fabless semiconductor company based out of Silicon Valley. The company is transforming the world by working closely with customers and looking forward into the market to enable leading-edge, value-add solutions that vanguard the industry in the use of wide-angle video camera solutions.

GEO was founded in 2009 by Dr. Paul Russo, the Director of FONOLO and SBG Labs as well as the Founder of Genesis Microchip and Silicon Optix, a fabless semiconductor company. GEO not only acquired key assets from Silicon Optix, but also raised Series A investment despite of the financial crisis in 2008-2009. Although developing GEO\'s core markets with prototype software and silicon solutions was not a simple exercise, aforementioned investment along with IP differentiator propelled GEO to enable a dizzying array of inimitable solutions. Unlike the DSP-based prevailing solutions, GEO provides their algorithmic differentiation in the form of an IC that has significantly lower footprint/size, very low latency and lower power at much lower cost.

This enables GEO to rise as one of the leading providers of Camera Video Processing solutions for the automotive as well as consumer cloud camera and IoT markets coming into 2015. GEO has recently delivered the preferred solution for automotive cameras and has established itself as an innovative leader in automotive HUD (Head up Display) solutions. The Company started its India operations in 2013. GEO believes the talent quality and market potential makes India imperative from both R&D and business development perspectives.

As Indian semiconductor and electronics ecosystem is poised for exponential growth, GEO foresees a broad range of consumer opportunities for their solutions from cloud-based video camera solutions for home and commercial use to wearable cameras, security applications and video projection applications. Top-tier customers from the automotive industry are working with GEO on backup cameras, side & rear-view mirror replacements, birds-eye view, dash cams, in-cabin viewing and HUD applications.

High Performance at Low Cost
GEO\'s renowned eWARP TM geometry processor enables users to program de-warping coefficients that provide high performance video processing for wide-angle video camera applications at low cost. The company\'s flagship product, GW3400, integrates eWARP TM core with Apical ISP, Tensilica TM Xtensa CPU with parallel and MIPI interfaces to provide a powerful and programmable camera system solution. GEO\'s GC6500 is a highly integrated, low-power H.264 Codec and camera video processor that supports video encoding up to HD 1920 x 1080p60 resolution.

While the solutions built around GEO\'s technology are beginning to enter the market, GEO\'s employees are excited to witness the commercial success of their innovative solutions that delights end-customers. The company endeavouring to create a great work environment considers the number of repeated customers as the key metric to their success. GEO strives to bring down the cost of sophisticated video analytics for all mass market applications and envisions being one of the fastest growing and financially a successful company.
