MindTree Consulting, founded in 1999, is now all set to undergo its first major organizational restructure, expanding the role of more than 150 leaders throughout the organization. The changes are basically to facilitate newer business opportunities, building industry-depth and focus on leadership development.

Ashok Soota, who is currently Chairman & MD, will assume the role of Executive Chairman. While providing overall leadership to the organization, Soota will now focus on strategic initiatives on MindTree’s expansion and growth. Soota will also continue to be the Chairman of the Board. Prior to co-founding MindTree, Soota was President of Wipro Infotech for fifteen years from 1984. During this period his leadership helped the company grow from a modest $2 million business in 1984 to a whopping $500 million monolith. In recognition of his invaluable contributions to the IT industry, Soota was named the Electronics Man of the Year in 1992 by the Electronic Component Industries Association.

A clear leader in the IT industry, Soota was the President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) during 2002-03, and has served on the Indian Prime Minister’s task force for the development of IT industry. He is currently a member of the Advisory Council of World Intellectual Property Organization in Geneva.

Soota holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Roorkee (now called IIT, Roorkee) and a Master of Business Administration degree from the Asian Institute of Management in the Philippines.

Subroto Bagchi, who is currently in the U.S., will step out of his role as the COO and take on the first-ever position of ‘Gardener’. As Gardener, Bagchi will spend one-on-one time with the Top-100 leaders at MindTree on their “personal-professional” issues, expand their leadership capabilities, and build up a readiness for taking MindTree into the billion-dollar league. In addition, Bagchi will work at the grassroots level by making himself available to the 45 Communities of Practice that foster organizational learning, innovation, and volunteerism. He will spend time on MindTree’s relationship with the educational community in India and abroad to make fresh inroads into the space of
education and learning, utilizing unusual sources and take MindTree’s potential to the world at large.
