Award-Winning Products
VMware(r) was founded in 1998 to bring virtual machine technology to industry-standard computers.
We delivered our first product, VMware
Workstation, in 1999 and entered the server market in 2001 with VMware GSX
Server and VMware ESX Server. With the launch of VMware Player and VMware
Server, we introduced the first free commercially available virtualization
products. In 2006, we introduced VMware Infrastructure 3, the industry's
first complete infrastructure virtualization suite. In 2007, we began
shipping new innovations to VMware Infrastructure 3, including new
features
such as Storage VMotion, which enables the live migration of virtual
machine
disks from one data storage system to another with little to no disruption
or
downtime; and Distributed Power Management, which reduces power
consumption
in the data center through intelligent and automated workload balancing.
We
also delivered VMware Server 2, the next generation of the company's
easy-to-use, free-of-charge virtualization product that lets customers
quickly provision new server capacity by partitioning a physical server
into
multiple virtual machines, and introduced VMware Fusion, which allows
Intel-based Macs to seamlessly run Windows applications alongside Mac
applications.
Proven Solutions
The broad and proven suite of VMware virtualization solutions addresses a
range of complex challenges facing IT organizations, including:
* Server Consolidation & Infrastructure Optimization: VMware technology
helps organizations consolidate servers and increase utilization rates,
greatly reduce power and cooling costs, and manage and automate IT
processes
for maximum availability, performance and scalability.
* Business Continuity: With automated load balancing and live migration
of virtual machines, VMware technology enables organizations to increase
uptime and reduce the cost and complexity of meeting high availability and
disaster recovery objectives.
* Software Lifecycle Automation: Developers and other IT professionals
use VMware solutions to streamline the software development and testing
process, reduce server provisioning time, and improve software quality.
* Enterprise Desktop Management: Enabling enterprises to better manage
and control their desktop systems, VMware helps customers speed
deployments,
administer systems from a central location, and provide end-users with a
satisfying physical-PC experience.
"From the desktop to the data center, VMware products are providing
significant capital and operational cost savings to customers. VMware is
enabling organizations of all sizes to deploy and manage two to three
times
the number of application workloads per administrator, while using four to
10
times less data center capacity. VMware's vision for the virtual data
center
is delivering tremendous value to our customers today and our product
pipeline for 2008 promises to deliver much more." - Diane Greene, VMware
President and CEO.
