Xiaomi Reveals the Official Launch Date of Mi Max: "The Phablet Version of Newly launched Mi 5"

BENGALURU: Amid speculations, Mi Max phablet is expected to see the light of the day early next month. In an official Twitter and Weibo post, Xiaomi confirmed that, it will be launching the new Mi Max smartphone at Beijing National Convention Center on May 10.

If the rumors are to be believed, it’s a phablet with a big 6.4-inch display, but the picture of the device suggests that it can fit inside a jeans pocket. The use of word ‘Max’ in the device’s name indicates the same. We’ll have to wait and see how that happens.

According to the tech website GFX Benchmark, the phone is powered by 6.0.1 Android Marshmallow operating system. Equipped with Adreno 510 GPU, Mi Max has 16-mega pixel rear and 5-mega pixel front facing camera. The phone has 2GB RAM, and 16GB internal memory coupled with Qualcomm hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor.

Mi Max front panel design is similar to the Xiaomi Mi 5 with a ceramic home-button for finger print scanning. People got to know about the Mi Max for the first time, when the Chinese giant phone-maker conducted a poll in China asking people ‘what should be the name of its next smartphone’ Out of the four options available, Mi Max was the most voted.

In August 2015, Xiaomi had collaborated with Taiwanese company Foxconn to set up local assembly unit of its phones to cater one of the world's fastest growing smartphone markets globally. 75 percent of the Xiaomi phones sold in India are locally assembled in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.
