Will Your Old Phone Get Android 4.4 KitKat Update?

Bangalore: The latest version of Android; Android 4.4 KitKat is expected to be out by this month end. Google says "It's our goal with Android KitKat to make an amazing Android experience available for everybody," on the official Android website.

Even though the website of your handset manufacturer lists your phone on the upgradable list, check with them as it takes long for the software to be available after Google releases an update. Hardware manufacturers may add custom apps or interfaces to Android so that the operating system works on their devices prolonging the availability of the upgrade.

Most of the handset manufacturers do not care to update the software for a few year old models due to outdated hardware and also to increase their sales.

Google’s Nexus models get the updates first when compared to others and the latest Nexus models come pre-loaded with Android 4.4 KitKat. Disregarding the official guidelines some have taken extra risk trying out updating the device themselves.
