WhatsApp Crosses 600 Mn Active Users, Leads The Mobile Messaging Field

BANGALORE: It is no secret that WhatsApp leads the rest of the mobile messaging field when it comes to popularity, and a tweet by its CEO and co-founder Jan Koum, which stated that the company had crossed 500 million active users in April, adding 100 million users in four months vindicates this nation, reports TNW.

The app crossed the significant half a billion user milestone in April this year. WeChat app was the closest behind WhatsApp with 438 million active users, most of whom are likely from China. Other who made it to the list were Tango with 70 million active users and Viber  with 100 million active users.

Following this, WhatApp founder, Koum also took a dig at other messaging services by saying that some of the other providers only reveal registered user numbers rather than how many of that number are actually using their service. He further exclaimed that, “Yes, active and registered are very different types of numbers.”

Driven this immaculate growth, WhatsApp aims introduce voice calling service going forward, but the project seems to have run into delays. The company is still working on the project, and the timeframe for a launch has not been revealed.
