Vuclip Hits Half Billion Mobile Video Views in a Month


Bangalore: Vuclip, an independent mobile video service, today released its Global Video Insights Report for January 2012, which captures mobile trends for last month and looks back at some of the biggest searches of 2011.

Commenting on the rapid growth in mobile video consumption, Salman says, “Video snacking on mobile has become a great way of refreshing oneself anytime, anywhere, in India and around the globe. Our impressive growth is a proof of this rapidly increasing mobile video consumption trend. Vuclip registered over 560 million video views last December, viewed by nearly 40 million unique users. Every day, more than 3 million searches are performed on Vuclip, which provides a great opportunity to grab the attention of today’s dynamic mobile users through immersive content."

As many as five different versions of the Kolaveri Di song made it among the top 10 mobile videos in India in December. From Hollywood, the only movie release Indians seem to be most eagerly awaiting is The Amazing Spider-Man, featuring Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, pushing its trailer to the ninth rank among the Top 10 Mobile Videos in India in December. The movie is slated for release in India and the US on the 3rd of July, 2012.

After being the most searched celebrity on mobile videos in 2010, Katrina Kaif retained her title of being the most searched in India in 2011 too. Sonakshi Sinha emerged as a new find on mobile videos in 2011 to grab the second spot. Jacqueline Fernandes, Kareena Kapoor and Aishwarya Rai were the other celebrities that made it to the top 10 most searched in 2011, despite not figuring in the list in 2010. Outside India, Deepika ruled mobile video searches in Singapore, emerging as December’s most searched celebrity on mobiles, ahead of Justin Bieber, Lindsay Lohan, Lady Gaga, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Lopez.

Cricket World Cup was also a rage in India which made it one of the top 10 most searched topics on mobile devices in India. Says Salman Hussain, Vuclip’s Vice President – Business Development and Managing Director, India & Middle East, “In 2011, we saw major trend shifts emerging in mobile video consumption. Cricket, of course, is India’s other passion besides Bollywood, but we also noticed impressive demand for regional videos such as Telugu movie clips of Shri Ram Rajyam featuring Nayantara. Bhojpuri movie songs and Bhojpuri devotional music clips also registered good video views on mobile in India, led by videos of Devi Maa.”
