Vivo X5 Max Review

BANGALORE: Move over Apple, Samsung, and Nokia. It is a well known fact that software companies are rushing to acquire mobile phone makers, and this makes it seem like all the innovation in mobile technology is happening on the software side. This is not the case, especially in China.  Xiaomi, Vivo and other Chinese phone makers are coming up with new ways to combine hardware and open source software to make killer phones.

Earlier, Chinese Smart phones were known for being inexpensive, but at the same time they were not very robust. But now, a lot of these products offer great features at even better prices. The Vivo X5 Max is one such phone, touted as the thinnest smartphone in the world.

The thinness of the phone has been criticized, based on the assumption that this compromises other essential features. This is simply not true. Yes, the battery life is not the greatest, with 2000 MaH, but considering the features on offer, it is a bargain.  The camera quality is superb; 13 megapixels front and 5 megapixels back, it clicks high quality pictures even in dim light.

It has a large screen and a 64-Octa Core processor, making it easy to do multiple things without letting the phone get hanged. Like all thin phones it has a camera bump at the back, so be careful and use a phone cover.

The phone does not run standard Android, but the Funtouch OS 2.0, an adapted system based on Android 4.4. The OS is easy to understand, and well designed. There are a lot of options for customization, but loads all apps on the homescreen. That’s probably a good thing, as it stops you downloading too many unnecessary apps.  All in all, buy if you like an uncluttered experience with great features.
