Ultrabook: The Next Generation Laptops


Bangalore: Ultraportable laptops having a sleek, compact and light weight design combined with a superior computing speed is estimated to be the next generation of tablet computers.  Intel claims that the new form of computer notebook will replacing the laptops and will change the face of computing by 2013. Intel South Asia's Director of Marketing Sandeep Aurora says "Our focus for next few years is going to be on energy efficiency, security and connectivity. Ultrabook as category was launched this year. This will change face of computing in next two to three years,"

The Intel patented Ultrabook came into existence to compete with the Apple MacBook Air over everything from price to processing power. Ultrabooks are made out of aluminum and fiber glasses; they are less than half an inch in thick and weigh around one kilogram. Ultrabooks are available with Core i3, Core i5 and i7 along with Windows OS and within a price range of 44000 to 90000.

Asus Zenbook UX 31, HP Folio 13, Asus UX 21, Lenovo IdeaPad U300S, Acer Aspire S3 and Toshiba Portage Z830 are the leading Ultrabooks in the market. All of them have Core i5 or i7 except Toshiba Portage Z830 which makes it lag a bit the consumer market. Asus Zenbook UX 31 and Lenovo U300S top the preference chart due to its sketched specifications and battery life.

Ultrabooks are meant for long standby life, quick boot, instant on wake up time, good performance, good battery life and can be carried like an envelope. The initial crop of Ultrabook has satisfied all the above criteria which include every aspect of a desirable portable device and have gained an expected level of satisfaction and therefore the Ultrabooks futures looks promising.
