Thunderbolt Hits Seagate's GoFlex Hard Drives

Bangalore:  Seagate has unveiled its new Thunderbolt adapter for its Goflex range of external hard drives at CES 2012. This new accessory will give a huge performance boost to the hard drives.  According to Seagate, faster Thunderbolt connection will increase hard-drive performance by two or three times compared to a FireWire 800 connection.

This adapter is designed for Seagate’s Goflex hard drives which was launched in May 2010 and has been the supplest solution for directly attached storage device till now because it supports all types of connectivity like USB, FireWire & eSATA and now the Thunderbolt too.

This new adapter comes in two forms and is connected to the hard drive and computer with a Thunderbolt cable. One model of this adapter is designed for the portable GoFlex drives which are 2.5-inch internal hard drive and the other model is for GoFlex Desk external hard drives which are designed for desktop computers. The model for desktop computers is somewhat larger and needs a separate power adapter to work, one major difference from the portable model.

The portable version of this adapter will reach the market by the first quarter of this year costing $99 and the desktop version will be available only by the second quarter costing $199. More over you have to shed $50 for the Thunderbolt cable also. Till now there is no information about its reach or price in Indian market.
